MAV systems have been supporting Police Forces worldwide in the use of ALPR technology for more than 15 years.
Such longevity has only been possible because of our unique understanding of Police requirements as well as the delivery of superior ALPR cameras that offer excellence in quality, performance, functionality, accuracy and flexibility.
ALPR cameras from the IQ range have been chosen year on year by multiple law enforcement agencies across the world to support both mobile and fixed solutions that offers them technological support in the fight against crime. With the release of the IQX range, this support has evolved in line with specific requirements of accuracy and communication of data to extend the options for efficient systems and deliver reliable results.
With easy set-up via truEZoom® and simple integration into back office software, all of the ALPR camera ranges provide swift deployment opportunities as well as a host of further benefits:
Internal storage of over 1,000,000 reads
Multiple communication channels
Split data options to compliment parallel systems
High performance, accuracy and quality
Mobile and Fixed ALPR options
Simple integration with existing systems and periphery device inclusion
Optional internal modem
Optional co-processing for vehicle classification

Why the police use ALPR
Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology is used to help detect, deter and disrupt criminality at a local, force, state and national level, including tackling traveling criminals, organised crime groups and terrorists. ALPR provides lines of enquiry and evidence in the investigation of crime and is used by law enforcement agencies throughout the world.
How it works
As a vehicle passes an ALPR camera, its registration number is read and instantly checked against database records of vehicles of interest. Law enforcement officers can intercept and stop a vehicle, check it for evidence and, where necessary, make arrests. A record for all vehicles passing by a camera is stored, including those for vehicles that are not known to be of interest at the time of the read that may in appropriate circumstances be accessed for investigative purposes. The use of ALPR in this way has proved to be important in the detection of many offences, including locating stolen vehicles, tackling uninsured vehicle use and solving cases of terrorism, major and organised crime. It also allows officers’ attention to be drawn to offending vehicles whilst allowing law abiding drivers to go about their business unhindered.
Supporting a wide range of sectors for many years
MAV have been supporting a wide range of sectors for many years and are able to meet the needs of varying solutions through the provision of bespoke products. Being able to seamlessly fit into existing systems or provide a full solution from the start, has led to a provision of ALPR technology across multiple sectors throughout the world.

Learn moreGovernment authorities have the responsibility to enforce measures that protect drivers, pedestrians and support efficient transport networks. As part of these responsibilities they require ALPR technological support in identifying drivers that jeopardise safety and cause obstructions to transport pathways. These enforcement measures have been specifically identified for Bus Lane infringements, Red Light violations and Box Junction infringements.
